Michela Cerruti at Brno – A bitter Race 1 ending

It was time to get back on-track with the powerful open-wheel cars of the Auto GP Series for Michela Cerruti today, as she lined-up at the Czech Brno venue with the MLR71 race team. Driving in the final round of the series, Michela is only at her second start and has encountered some alternating fortunes today in Race 1.

The Milan-based female racer had made her debut in August at the Nurburgring, but missed Donington due to a same-day commitment in the Italian GT Championship. So after snatching a spectacular win at Imola on her works BMW Z4, Michela had to quickly re-adapt to the driving style required by an open-wheel car on one of the toughest track of Europe.

After having started from the 8th row on the grid, Michela held a great race pace and constantly battled with her rivals. Unfortunately, in an hard-fought part of the race, Michela spun with four to go and was forced to retire. She is ready to rebound in Race 2 though. The action will be back at 14:50 with live coverage on Eurosport.

 Michela Cerruti

The point where I spun was particularly delicate, one you had to put a lot of attention in. For the whole race I found myself dealing with some slower drivers out front so I lost some of my reference points. The result was that I lost control in that corner and had to retire. On the other hand, despite the disappointment due to the fact that the performance is not as high as we hoped for after Nurburgring, the pace proved much better than yesterday’s sessions. I’m impatiently waiting for Race 2 so we will realize the steps we’re making. We hope to finally achieve the results we had expected at the start of this weekend”.
