The 1000 Km of the Nurburgring, part of the Blancpain Endurance Series schedule, didn’t last long for Michela Cerruti. The Italian female racer was involved in an unfortunate crash during the first hour, an event that forced the Roal Motorsport-prepared BMW Z4 GT3 to an early retirement.
Although the potential showed in practice by Michela and team-mates Eugenio Amos and Stefano Comandini was pretty clear, the trio was unable to put it all together with a good qualifying result. Michela drove in the Q2 session, when the rain hit the German circuit hard and, as a consequence, she was forced to content with her first flyer, set in dry conditions and meaning that the #43 BMW was bound to the 16th row.

“I feel sorry that my first crash in two years of Blancpain racing has arrived here at the Nurburgring. I was caught out by the white pit exit line. I braked on it with wet conditions and I lost control, hitting a Ferrari that was approaching turn 1. Also, it had all started in a tough way in qualifying, when I only had the chance to score one dry laptime amid traffic before the rain prevented us from climbing up the charts. With the Blancpain event at the Nurburgring, my GT season is over for now, so I thank the Roal team and BMW Motorsport for the support provided this year. My next commitment will be at Estoril, in Portugal, for the final round of the Auto GP season on the 19th of October“.
