GT Italia, Imola Michela Cerruti set for double front row starts

The monkey finally went off Michela Cerruti’s back at Imola as the Italian female racer cruised to a spectacular performance in qualifying for round 5 of the Italian GT Championship. After struggling in the previous race meeting held at the same venue, Michela scored two second places good for two promising front row starts on Race Day. In the first session, she ended up right behind her ROAL Motorsport team-mate Colombo, while in the second one she followed the Ferrari 458 of Venturi.

Michela left a powerful impression on-track: “there have been some changes in the rulebook and now, with 20 kilograms less, our BMW has improved consistently, while some other cars were penalized to ensure a better balance between the drivers. The situation is much better and fair now.

“It’s been great to fight with my team-mate Colombo in Q1 as he’s one very quick driver. The difference between us was minimal, just two tenths of a second. Maybe I could have had a shot at the pole… but in the closing stint I lost a couple of tenths in traffic. In qualifying 2, I did a small mistake and blew my chances. Once again though, the gap was less than 0.2s.”

Cerruti scored her first pole in GT Italia at Spilberg while her personal best result on Race Day this season has been a third place at Mugello. “I would love to get my first win of the year here, but it will be hard. Imola is a tough and unforgiving track and the races are very long. Anything can happen and I don’t want to make predictions. Right now, I’m celebrating today’s result”

The two 48-minute + 1 lap races will be taking-off at 9 AM and 14:40 PM, with coverage in Italy on RaiSport 2. Race 1 will be televised live, while Race 2 will be delayed at 17:20.

Both heats will be live on
