Michela Cerruti impresses with two points finishes at her fast-paced Auto GP debut

Michela Cerruti experienced a very positive debut run in the 2013 Auto GP series at the mighty Nürburgring race course. The 26-year-old Italian female racer captured two points finishes for the MLR71 team in Germany, but more than that, she left a strong impression in terms of her approach and pace, as she carried-on the momentum gained in an earlier test at Vallelunga.

After having experienced some struggles in qualifying, Michela recovered up to 9th place in Race 1, making up from the 14th starting spot and almost securing the pole spot for the Sunday. In Race 2, she then proceeded to finish in 8th, as she kept quick and consistent while adapting to new kinds of car, starting system and pit-stops.

With a shining first-time experience in Auto GP and the clear intention to be back as soon as possible, Michela will be now be back in control of her works BMW Z4 in less than two weeks, as the Italian GT Championship approaches round 5 at Imola.

“I’m very satisfied with my debut weekend in the Auto GP Series – said Michela – The race pace was comparable with the one set by my best opponents and after some struggles in qualifying I ended up with two great points finishes. I have to say that this car really suits my stile despite its bolder and more challenging character. In the end, I didn’t experience any kind of physical fade and stayed consistent right from the start

“In Race 1, we went for an aggressive strategy and we managed to recover up to the 9th position, almost making it to the Race 2 pole. Then on Sunday we stayed focused and consistent, ending up in 8th – without a small mistake at the end our position would have been even better! I really want to thank the team because they supported me from the first lap of the first practice session. They really believe in me and that’s not something you see every day. Also, the promoters gave me a very warm welcome… it’s something that definitely make you look forward to be back.”
